It is a technique used for diagnosing nerve and muscle disorders.
It consists of two parts. In the first part, the conduction rate of the
nerves is measured. With an electrode placed on the muscle, a very
mild electrical stimulation is presented to the related nerve. It has
no harmful effects on the patient.
In the second part, very fine, “disposable” needles, specially made
for individual patients are used. The activities of the involved muscles
are determined by inserting needles into them. There is no electrical
stimulation in this part. In patients using “Coumadin”, special
precaution is needed.
It is applied to patients with the diagnosis of lumbar hernia, muscles
diseases, motor neuron disease, neuropathies and nerve compression.
Patients are informed before examination that they should attend the
examination with their hands and feet kept warm. |
