ECT is a way of treatment for a variety of mental problems, with recent advances which have made it far safer and more effective.
ECT involves placing electrodes on the temples, on one or both sides of the patient's head, and delivering a small electrical current. The aim is to produce a seizure lasting up to a minute, after which the brain activity should return to normal.
We use Thymatron System IV for ECT that allows us to monitor heart rate, brain waves and muscle contraction.
The patients are transferred to treatment room by a system that do not allow them to see each other under treatment.
An anesthesiologist and a psychiatrist administer ECT in all cases.
